London's Garden Fairy Cake

London's mom Angila contacted me to do a cake for London's 6th birthday.  Last year I did a Rapunzel tower cake for London.  I was excited when she called me to do another cake this year.  This years theme was Garden Fairy.  Angila sent me a copy of the party invite to start the brainstorming.  After a talk we came up with all the must haves.  Harlequin, dots, butterflies, flowers, toad stools, wand, fairies, and lots of glitter.  I as working on the cake everything came pretty easy except the fairies.  I got to it and made the wand, flowers, butterflies and big #6 topper. I did decide to use the flowers instead dots on the top tier. Then I figured it out.  I cut two fairies out sprayed them with the pearl spray and coated them with opal and hot pink glitter.  I made a banner with Happy Birthday London on it and had the fairies holding it.  Then when it was all done I sprinkled the whole thing with green, pink and opal glitter to make it as sparklie as possible.

The top tier was chocolate on chocolate (dark chocolate cake and dark chocolate ganache) and the bottom was green, pink and white tye dye with strawberry crack filling.

Parker Cake

Let me start off by saying I really don't like to do character cakes (sorry Kim).  It is just that I don't feel like I can do them justice.  I would hate to make a cake and have everyone say "That is suppose to be ______(fill the blank with your favorite character).  But this time I decided to take a leap and go for it.  So the request was for a Angry birds/bowling cake.  After a little research I felt confident I could pull it off.  I started by making rice crispy treat shapes.  Then one night after dinner I sat at the table with my laptop with pictures up and went out it.  I have to be honest the bowling pins were more of a headache than the birds.  I was thrilled with how they turned out and so was Kim and her family.

The top layer was primary colors tye dyed with buttercream and the bottom was chocolate/vanilla marble with vanilla buttercream.

Christy's 40th cake

When my good friend Christy decided to have a shared 40th birthday party with her brother in law Mike it didn't take her long to come up with a theme. The 80's was a perfect fit. So as the time came closer Christy and I started brain storming for ideas. After searching the internet we found a really cool 4 tiered wedding cake that had black fondant and florescent paint splatters. It was the perfect base for everything else. So after a bit more we came up with a cassette tape, Mtv, pac-man stars, and a cool pair of sunglasses. Of course no birthday cake reclaiming their youth would be complete without a skateboard for Mike and a roller skate for Christy.

The top tier was florescent tye dyed with vanilla buttercream and the bottom was vanilla cake with "wedding cake" filling. Wedding cake filling is vanilla pudding, crushed pineapple, and cool whip. I call it wedding cake because that was what my mom made for Rob and I when we had our first wedding.
